Pain Relief - Fertility - Nervous System Regulation - Whole Body Healing

About Janet Humphrey, M.S., L.Ac.

With over 35 years of clinical experience, Janet Humphrey brings a rare depth of knowledge and refinement to the practice of acupuncture and integrative care.

Her work is grounded in Traditional Chinese Medicine and shaped by decades of hands-on clinical observation—working directly with patients to understand not only where symptoms arise, but why.

A Practice Built on Experience

Over the course of her career, Janet has treated a wide range of conditions—from acute and chronic pain to fertility challenges and complex, multi-system imbalances.

What distinguishes her work is not only the breadth of conditions she treats, but the depth of attention given to each individual.

Her practice has evolved intentionally into a private, one-on-one model, allowing her to remain fully present with each patient and apply her skills with precision.

Her work reflects a thoughtful integration of Eastern and Western perspectives, informed by a background in biochemistry and decades of hands-on clinical practice.

Specialized Expertise in Dry Needling

Janet has over 20 years of experience in dry needling (trigger point therapy), informed by training connected to the work of Janet Travell.

This work has become an important part of her clinical focus, particularly in the treatment of pain and musculoskeletal conditions.

Her approach differs from more limited applications of dry needling in that it is:

  • Performed by a practitioner with decades of needle-based clinical experience
  • Integrated within a whole-body diagnostic system
  • Applied with a high level of precision and sensitivity

A Whole-Body Perspective

Janet’s work is rooted in the understanding that symptoms are rarely isolated.

Pain, hormonal imbalance, stress, and fatigue often reflect deeper patterns within the body.

By addressing these patterns, treatment can:

  • Resolve symptoms more effectively
  • Reduce recurrence
  • Support long-term health and resilience

A Collaborative Approach to Care

Patients are not passive recipients of treatment.

Throughout each session, Janet provides insight and education so that patients can better understand their bodies and make informed decisions about their health.

When appropriate, care may include:

  • Herbal medicine
  • Targeted nutritional support
  • Guidance on lifestyle and recovery

All recommendations are made collaboratively and tailored to the individual.

A More Refined Approach to Care

This practice is intentionally structured to provide a level of attention and precision that is increasingly uncommon in high-volume treatment settings.

Each session is conducted in a private, one-on-one environment, allowing for:

  • Continuous assessment and refinement
  • Detailed palpation and hands-on evaluation
  • Real-time adjustment of treatment

Care is not based on standardized protocols, but on a careful understanding of your specific condition and underlying patterns.

A Precision-Based Method

Over time, Janet’s work has evolved into what can be described as a precision-based approach to acupuncture.

This includes:

  • Accurate diagnosis
  • Skilled palpation
  • Precise needle placement
  • Attention to how the body responds moment-to-moment

This level of refinement allows for treatment that is both highly targeted and comprehensive.

Clinical Approach & Techniques

Treatment may integrate:

  • Japanese meridian-style acupuncture (Kiiko Matsumoto method)
  • Classical Chinese acupuncture
  • Trigger point release (dry needling)
  • LED light therapy for pain relief

These approaches are combined as appropriate, based on your individual needs.

Background & Training

Janet’s path into acupuncture began through direct clinical experience.

After experiencing a chronic and treatment-resistant case of sinusitis and bronchitis, she found significant relief through acupuncture—an experience that shifted her interest toward studying this field.

At the time, she was working in molecular biology research at the University of California, Santa Cruz, studying gene expression related to cancer.

Her formal training includes:

  • Five Branches Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine
  • San Francisco College of Acupuncture
  • A clinical apprenticeship with Robert Zeiger, L.Ac., OMD
  • Graduate Mentorship Certification in Chinese Herbal Medicine with Sharon Weizenbaum

She later pursued advanced training at Tri-State College of Acupuncture in New York City, where she studied Acupuncture Physical Medicine and Trigger Point release (Dry Needling) with Mark Seem, as well as Japanese acupuncture with Kiiko Matsumoto.

Areas of Clinical Focus

Janet works extensively with:

Pain & Musculoskeletal Conditions

  • Sports injuries
  • Back pain and disc-related conditions
  • Sciatica
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Chronic pain syndromes

Internal & Systemic Health

  • Digestive concerns
  • Fertility support
  • Fatigue and burnout
  • Insomnia
  • Hormonal imbalance

Treatment is always approached from a whole-body perspective, addressing both symptoms and underlying causes.

Credentials

  • Nationally Board Certified in Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine
    (Dipl. Ac., Dipl. C.H., NCCAOM)
  • Licensed in California, New York, and Florida

Janet graduated with Highest Honors in Biochemistry from Marlboro College and pursued doctoral studies in Nutritional Biochemistry at Cornell University prior to beginning her studies in acupuncture and Chinese medicine.

A Broader Approach to Health

In addition to her clinical work, Janet is a lifelong meditation practitioner and teacher, and facilitates breathwork sessions focused on nervous system regulation and self-healing.

A Thoughtful, Collaborative Process

Patients are active participants in their care.

Throughout treatment, Janet provides guidance and insight to help patients better understand their health and make informed decisions.

Her goal is not only to resolve symptoms, but to support a more sustainable and informed approach to long-term well-being.

An Evolving Body of Work

In addition to her clinical practice, Janet is developing educational programs for both patients and practitioners.

These programs reflect the integration of:

  • Acupuncture and Chinese medicine
  • Advanced needle technique
  • Breathwork and nervous system regulation

Her goal is to share this work more broadly while maintaining the depth and integrity of her clinical approach.
